MOVIE THEORY : Brad Pitt's 'World War Z' Being Planned as Potential Trilogy
Brad Pitt's zombie war film "World War Z" has yet to be released in theaters, but plans to turn it into a potential franchise have already been made. In a Los Angeles Times' article about Pitt's acting career, it was revealed that the post-apocalyptic movie has been prepared as a trilogy.
"For Pitt, the big sci-fi thriller also represents his strongest bid to have a big film franchise of his own, which might be viewed as the missing piece of his career jigsaw puzzle," so read the article. "[Director Marc] Foster and Paramount Pictures each view 'World War Z' as a trilogy."
It was also said that the storyline of the potential trilogy would "have the grounded, gun-metal realism of, say, [Matt] Damon's Jason Bourne series tethered to the unsettling end-times vibe of AMC's 'The Walking Dead'." However, there has been no official word from Paramount about the franchise possibility.
In "World War Z", Pitt tackles the part of Gerry Lane, a United Nation employee who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself. The story is based on Max Brook's horror novel of the same title.
Aside from Pitt, the cast ensemble include Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, Julia Levy-Boeken, Elyes Gabel and David Morse. The thriller itself is due to open wide in theaters across the United States on December 21.
